455 Rocket 2/25/2006 2:08:40 PM tashos Posts: 1 Great song! I have a 455 Rocket in my Oldsmobile and it still runs strong! In 1970 when Olds produced the W-30 455 Rocket, it was under rated at 370 hp. Its real claim to fame however was the more than 500 ft. lbs of torque. Which at the time (back in the good ole days was unmatched by any car manufacturer). As the saying goes... 'Horsepower sells cars - but torque wins races'. Some will tell you that the 1968 Hurst/Olds 455 Rocket had a lot more horse than that, probably closer to 400 hp. Never the less, these engines were very powerful, hence the song that Kathy so fittingly made. Long live the 455 Olds Rocket engine!
