The version most appear to be familiar with is from the 84&88 tours. Frank and Ike introduce the song with a news item about a new product being served to "difficult" prisoners in federal detention. Confinement Loaf is made with bean by-products. according to FZ "after a few days on confinement loaf they mellow right out. How long before it starts being served in high schools across the country?"
Again, FZ is ahead of the curve, accurately predicting more governmental intrusions into personal freedom and "management techniques" of the Poodle Corps.
An interesting song in the instrumental sense. The arrangement is classic Zappa, the horn section underscoring many of the lyrical points along the way. Ike's humour is so infectious that even the great FZ is driven to laughs as Ike solemnly intones "gimme dat gimme dat gimme dat LOAF!" |
